Job Title: Trainee Technician
Build the Skills to Power the Future of Agriculture
Position Summary:
We’re seeking a Trainee Automated Harvesting Technician who is passionate about machinery, agriculture, and hands-on technical work. In this full-time, field-based role, you’ll work under experienced technicians and maintenance staff to develop essential skills in maintaining and operating automated harvesting equipment. You’ll also gain exposure to welding, fabrication, diagnostics, and the systems used to keep complex farm machinery running.
This is a growth-focused position for individuals eager to learn and committed to supporting innovative, sustainable agricultural practices. With training and dedication, you’ll build a foundation to advance into senior-level technician roles.
Key Responsibilities & Learning Areas:
Equipment Support & Maintenance
- Learn to operate, inspect, and maintain automated harvesting machines in both shop and field environments
- Assist with pre-harvest, daily, weekly, and seasonal maintenance using scheduling tools like the Eworks program
- Support installation, alignment, and calibration of harvesting equipment
- Learn how to perform diagnostics and document common equipment issues
Hands-On Mechanical and Electrical
- Develop Advanced understanding of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems
- Learn how to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and equipment manuals
- Gain hands-on experience with tools such as drills, hoists, torque wrenches, meters, and fabrication equipment
- Assist in routine preventive maintenance tasks such as checking drives, motors, filters, and fluid levels
Welding and Fabrication
- Support welding projects under supervision, using MIG, TIG, or ARC techniques
- Prepare metals through cutting and grinding; learn to interpret welding symbols and plans
- Assist in assembling, installing, and repairing metal structures or components
- Participate in safe operation and maintenance of welding tools
Field Experience & Troubleshooting
Support senior technicians in adjusting and optimizing harvester performance
- Assist in diagnosing mechanical/electrical problems and support machine operators in troubleshooting
- Help inspect field conditions and equipment functionality to ensure operational safety
Documentation & Communication
- Record basic maintenance actions and part replacements in service logs
- Support accurate reporting of safety concerns or mechanical failures
- Participate in team meetings focused on machine performance and project coordination
Education & Qualifications:
- Required: High school diploma or GED
- Preferred: Technical/trade school coursework in mechanical, electrical, or agricultural technologies
Desired Skills & Competencies:
- Experience in ag tech, mechanical systems, or fabrication
- Mechanical aptitude with eagerness to learn electrical and hydraulic systems
- Ability to follow instructions, retain hands-on training, and communicate clearly
- Comfortable using or learning tools such as hoists, drills, grinders, diagnostic meters, etc.
- Knowledge of safety protocols and personal protective equipment (PPE)
Additional Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license (California preferred)
- Willingness to relocate seasonally between Salinas, CA (April–November) and Yuma, AZ (November–April)
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus, but not required
- Ability to work in outdoor field conditions typical of agricultural environments
Work Schedule:
- Monday–Saturday
- Occasional weekend work during peak harvest seasons
Compensation & Benefits:
- Pay Range: $27– $30 /hour depending on experience
