Job Description

Ratto Bros, Inc. is a 100-year-old family-owned farming operation selling vegetables and leafy greens to retailers and packers throughout the U.S. As a vertically integrated grower, packer, and shipper, we have full control over every aspect of our business that allows us to stay true to our ongoing commitment to provide the freshest, safest, and highest quality produce on the market. We are looking for a self-driven individual to join our HR department.

The Safety Coordinator will oversee and uphold safety and environmental programs throughout our operation. This position will be to conduct safety/food safety trainings for all employees and contractors. You will perform various safety functions including, injury investigations, trainings, tailgates, presentations, and maintaining detailed safety documentation.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Conducts meetings and trainings to all employees about safety and regulatory programs that include, but not limited to (New Hire Orientations, EAP, Confined Space, Heat Stress, IIPP, Ag WPS, Pesticide Handlers, Shop Safety)
  • Facilitate safety trainings for managers, supervisors, and employees in both English and Spanish.
  • Update policies and procedures to ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal environmental, health, and safety regulations (DHS, PSM/RMP, OSHA)
  • Develop employee awareness on safety programs by providing hands-on demonstrations, verifications, and testing of safe and proper use of: driving, forklift, pallet jacks, tractors, implements, PTO,
  • Process Workers’ Compensation claims, taking employees to the occupational clinic/hospital, perform injury investigations, follow through with insurance carrier and injured employee throughout the workers compensation process.
  • Maintain the DOT driver files and DOT Drug/Alcohol Testing, Pull Program.
  • Oversee the farm labor vehicle driver & Hazmat program.
  • Develops guidelines and SOPs as processes and procedures change or are implemented.
  • Conducts Job Hazard Analysis and provide feedback on updates.
  • Maintain OSHA 300 Logs and recordkeeping requirements.
  • Conduct investigation and root cause analysis on all safety incidents.
  • Effectively monitor, track, and process all activity related to workers’ compensation claims management and provide monthly and/or periodic reports. Identify and communicate trend analysis.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements and Qualifications:

  • 2+ years’ experience in a safety role, preferably in an agricultural or food industry.
  • Proactive attitude and strong organizational skills
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, DOT, PSM/RMP, SPCC, Agriculture Guidelines
  • English/Spanish bilingual/bi-literate preferred
  • Must be comfortable leading training sessions in ranch, field, shop, and warehouse environments
  • Up-to-date knowledge on Cal OSHA and Federal OSHA regulations
  • Valid Driver’s license
  • OSHA 10- or 30-hour Instructor-certified preferred
  • Must be able to work under tight deadlines in an agricultural or manufacturing environment and respond to “on call” hours as needed
  • Certified WPS Field Worker Pesticide Safety Trainer
  • Certified Forklift trainer or the ability to obtain the above licenses and certificates.

 

Work Environment:

  • Monday – Friday, Saturday availability required
  • The work environment on ranches, the employee will occasionally experience exposure to airborne agents like dusts, spores, pollens, insects, smells etc. Work environment is cold, muddy, windy, hail, foggy, or rain in winter, hot and very sunny during the summer
  • Ability to bend, climb and lift up to 60 lbs.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at desk and working on computer.
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization’s facilities and ranches.

 

Salary: $70k – $85k
