JOB TITLE: Controller
REPORTS TO: Director of Accounting & Tax
EXEMPT: Yes
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: Yes
SALARY RANGE: $150k – $170k
SUMMARY:
The Controller is responsible for managing accounting functions including overseeing Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, and General Ledger functions. Also responsible for coordinating the preparation of monthly journal entries, as well as the preparation of monthly/annual financial reports in a timely manner. The Controller will assist external auditors in conducting the company’s annual audit. The Controller will assist in the preparation of the annual budget, monthly forecasting, and monthly reports of budget variances. Special analyses, tax return schedules, and other reports will be prepared for the Director of Accounting & Tax as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following as well as other duties and responsibilities which may be assigned.
- Prepares timely and accurate financial statements.
- Collaborates with Director of Accounting & Tax and management staff to ensure processes and procedures are in place and followed.
- Supervises, trains, and coaches accounting staff to ensure work is being completed accurately, timely and efficiently.
- Prepares monthly combined financial statements with eliminations.
- Reconciles all accounts on the balance sheet to ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Assists in monthly close-out process.
- Assists with annual budgets – prepares all allocations; prepares operating budgets and annual financial statement format. Closely maintains and monitors the fixed assets system.
- Ability to meet internal and external deadlines.
- Reviews and submits annual 1099 and serves as backup to A/P on 1099’s.
- Prepares quarterly and annual sales and use tax filings.
- Monitors A/R balances and reports any discrepancies or concerns to the Director of Accounting & Tax.
- Compiles and analyzes financial information to prepare entries to general ledger accounts, cost centers and documents business transactions.
- Prepares financial statements and other reports to summarize and interpret current and projected company financial position.
- Prepares work papers and supporting schedules for the annual financial review.
- Interfaces with IT to resolve systems issues and work to develop and enhance systems for a changing business environment. Assists with testing ERP system when upgrades are performed.
- Follows Company policies and practices while representing company in an ethical and business-like manner in all interactions with employees, government agencies, growers, customers, etc.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance or equivalent.
- Certified Public Accountant, preferred.
- 5+ years of related experience.
- Knowledgeable in GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
- Advanced knowledge of spreadsheet applications, (Microsoft Excel) is required.
- Advanced proficiency in MS Office (Word & Outlook) applications skills is desired.
- Knowledge in Microsoft Dynamics D365 is highly desirable.
- Protects organization’s value by keeping information confidential.
