Plant Manager – Delano, CA

Sun Pacific began in 1969 with the purchase of 72 acres of oranges in Exeter, California. Today Sun Pacific owns more than 40,000 acres in California and ships 35 million boxes of fresh fruit annually. As the acreage has grown, so has our expertise and attention to detail in farming and packing the highest quality product. Today, with over 3,000 employees, Sun Pacific is the largest grower/shipper of navel oranges in the world, and the largest grower/shipper of table grapes, mandarins, and kiwi in North America.

JOB SUMMARY: The Plant Manager will oversee the production process at our highest volume cold storage facility, ensuring efficiency, quality, and safety standards are met. This role involves managing a diverse team, optimizing operations, and implementing strategic initiatives to enhance productivity and reduce costs.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: The Plant Manager will report directly to the Senior Vice President of Operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The essential job duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Oversee a staff of Managers and Supervisors;
  • Engage in strategic and operational planning;
  • Oversight of all grape packing, project management, equipment and machinery design, installation and maintenance;
  • Work closely with harvest, supply chain and logistics teams to ensure timely delivery of materials and finished products;
  • Manage leadership of the warehouse and shipping staff to ensure proper product rotation, accurate inventories and superior customer service;
  • Communicate and coordinate all daily production estimates and requirements to ensure all grape sales demand is met;
  • Collaborate with executive management to develop and implement long-term strategic goals for the plant;
  • Identify opportunities for technology and process innovations that enhance production capabilities;
  • Optimize all pack house operations to ensure effective production while maintaining a safe work environment for all employees;
  • Assist with annual operational and capital budgeting;
  • Champion positive and effective employee relations, employee safety, and food safety compliance to reduce the risk of product loss;
  • Support and coordinate training programs for the development of all employees;
  • Assist in the training, mentoring and evaluation of employee performance to continually improve operational performance and standards;
  • Ensure employees are aware of and follow all company policies, practices and procedures;
  • Lead compliance efforts with all applicable Federal and State laws and regulations from OSHA, EPA, USDA, and FDA;
  • Lead all facility staff in the practice of continuous improvement in all departments; and,
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by company management.

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Agricultural Engineering, Business Management, or a related field preferred, but may be substituted with exceptional work experience;
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a managerial role within a manufacturing or food environment, preferably in fruit or vegetable production; and,
  • Possession of a CDL and an acceptable driving record insurable by the company’s insurance provider.

 

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIIES:

  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop a diverse workforce;
  • Strong understanding of production processes, quality control, and safety regulations;
  • Proficient in data analysis and experience with manufacturing software systems;
  • Background in warehouse and shipping operations; knowledgeable of Warehouse Management Systems (WMS);
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills;
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities projects and tasks;
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb stairs, work in close proximity to moving equipment, bend stoop, kneel and perform repetitive motion as required to perform the essential duties of the job for long periods at a time; and,
  • Ability to work extensive hours, second shift (when necessary), weekends, and to be very flexible to compliment seasonal operations and demands of the job to continue the Company’s success.

 

COMPENSATION: Annual compensation offered is $100,000 to $120,000.
