Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and highly organized Growing Operations Manager to oversee all aspects of our carrot growing operations. This role requires an individual with strong leadership skills and a hands-on approach, responsible for managing planting, forecasting, advising, and harvesting activities. The ideal candidate will also take ownership of field crew management and equipment upkeep while ensuring efficient and cost-effective operations across various growing locations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage all carrot growing activities, including planting, advising, forecasting, and harvesting.
  • Supervise and oversee the planting and harvest crews, including hiring, performance management (write-ups, PIPs), training, and day-to-day coordination.
  • Manage all planting and harvesting operations, ensuring timely execution and proper maintenance of equipment.
  • Maintain an inventory of essential spare parts, seeds, and perform basic upkeep on farm machinery (fluids, pumps, motors, hydraulic systems).
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot machinery issues and collaborate with the agricultural mechanic for quick field repairs.
  • Ensure diesel wagons are fully stocked, and portable restrooms are clean and operational.
  • Coordinate with trucking dispatch to schedule efficient pick-ups of harvested loads and arrange transportation of equipment between growing regions.
  • Maintain and foster positive relationships with partner growers, providing guidance on fertilizers, fumigation, and spray techniques.
  • Keep accurate planting and harvesting records, including seed type, density, fertilizers, and food safety requirements.
  • Update the Field In app for demand forecasting and generate detailed reports for the management team.
  • Collaborate with the Production Manager, Food Safety Manager, and General Manager to meet overall company goals.
  • Willingness to work six days a week, including Sundays through Fridays, with flexibility to work Saturdays depending on weather and schedule demands.
  • Travel to various locations such as Central and Imperial/Desert regions to advise and support partner growers throughout the planting and harvesting process.
