Job Description
The Compliance Manager, South is responsible for developing, administering, and verifying the implementation of the company’s internal food safety program for the operations in Coachella, Yuma, and Oxnard. The incumbent will manage others, including and up to, hiring, training, mentoring, developing, providing employee feedback, disciplinary communication, and conducting annual performance evaluations. This position will have a dotted line reporting relationship to the Coachella Plant Manager.
- Responsible for enhancing regulatory compliance and enforcing food safety policies for our Southern operations.
- Work with the Food Safety and HR/Occupational Safety Department as needed by supporting and acting as the local point of contact for audits and regulatory compliance efforts.
- Coordinate Third Party Audits, CCOF Certifications, Risk Assessments, Environmental Sampling and Supplier inspections.
- Implement and oversee third-party auditing process as well as in-house inspections of farms and facilities.
- Perform routine inspections to ensure regulations and policies are being met.
- Promote company programs by educating customers and employees on trends and changes affecting food safety and quality standards.
- Provide or facilitate training programs to employees to create overall compliance and actively communicate any policy changes.
- Oversee the preparation of documentation submissions to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Lead adherence to current FSMA food safety standards as minimum standards for farm, harvest and facility operations.
- Develop facility and farm Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) according to GAP, GMP, NOP and other international standards, regulatory requirements, and customer expectations.
- Oversee employees that coordinate, and review chemical/microbiological testing of crops as required by customers or company standards.
- Guide and or Approve corrective actions as needed.
- Identify and analyze situations or any compliance issues and provide best possible solutions.
- Address and resolve customer and consumer complaints effectively.
Job Requirements and Qualifications:
- 4 years of leadership experience in the agriculture industry, directly involved in field audits, sampling, mock recalls, and harvest oversight.
- Possess strong project management skills.
- Administer research results and make recommendations on a management level.
- Capacity to identify issues.
- Certified Training for the Food Safety Modernization Act: Produce Safety Rule, Preventive Controls Rule, Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP), and the Sanitary Transport Act.
- Knowledgeable of Primus GFS Audits (GAP and GMP).
- Knowledgeable of the Leafy Green Modernization Act.
- Knowledgeable of organic standards and the CCOF Organic Certification process for the NOP.
- Skilled at using ATP monitoring devices.
- Engage effectively, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Apply a scientific and risk-based approach to solving food safety problems.
- Proven ability to:
- Develop and train SOPs and SSOPs.
- Work well with all levels of internal management and staff as well as outside clients and vendors; work well under pressure and meet various deadlines.
- Be well organized and able to multitask; work independently and manage a project from initiation to completion with minimal supervision.
- Maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, vendors and peers; and maintain a balanced outlook during stressful times.
- Proactively communicate task and project updates to supervisor; discreet handling of all business matters (maintaining confidentiality at all levels is a must).
- Bilingual English and Spanish with the ability to communicate, read, write and translate at a proficient level is strongly desired; must maintain a valid driver’s license and be insurable.
- Travel to Yuma and Oxnard Growing areas as required on a need to need basis.
- Other duties as assigned.
Salary Range: $80,000 – $95,000
